About

Our Philosophy

At MakerBox we believe that every child should have access to classes and equipment that will help them compete in the growing fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. We strive to teach process over product. Every student will leave our workshops not just with the knowledge that something works, but an understanding of why it works.

Small Class Sizes & Age Appropriate Content

We keep our class sizes small to ensure that students get individualized attention. Each workshop is created with one of four specific age groups in mind so students receive educational content tailored to their developmental needs. Never again will your fourteen year old be in the same class as a six year old.

Supporting & Growing Community

We think what we do is pretty awesome, but we know that we can’t serve all of Wellington on our own.  MakerBox actively seeks to support and work alongside other local organisations and community groups, particularly those who value people over profit.  We achieve this through collaborative events and helping to boost the signal on classes and workshops taking place in Wellington, even when they don’t involve us.  We are also working towards publishing our lesson plans under a Creative Commons license so that they may be shared and remixed by others.  We believe that when we work together, the whole city wins.
